Necklaces come in all shapes and sizes and forms don’t they? They can be made of beads, pearls, buttons, string, lace…..the list can go on and on, but pretty much anything you can bend and shape has potential to become a necklace.
Now I’ll be honest, I do have a fairly decent collection of necklaces, and continuing with the honest trend, that collection will never stop growing! And if you asked me to pick a favourite from that collection – again with the honest trend, well I would have to say none of them, and here’s why…..
My favourite necklace is one like no other. You will never see an exact copy of it in any shop, or around any other woman’s neck. You will never wear this particular one. You most likely would not want to, preferring to wear your own one….
This favourite necklace of mine is one that can silently and innocently creep up on me, often catching me unawares, in the midst of work, or lost in thoughts. It is the one that is small and chubby, soft and warm. It winds its way around my neck and sits so comfortably and perfectly, the best fitting necklace I own.
You could say it was born to be there……
The necklace will sit there, drawing assurances of unconditional love and acceptance; giving assurances of unending devotion and innocence.
It has a tight hold, as if it can never be taken off – and in my heart of hearts I wish that that could be so…..but in my rational mind I know that one day that necklace will change forever.
So for now, I will cherish every time I wear my favourite necklace; my heart will take a picture and my mind will file it under ‘most precious’.
Yes, I will miss wearing my favourite necklace because nothing I put around my neck could be anywhere near as special as my children’s arms…..
